Consultants, You are Superheroes

Remember, my fellow consultants, that you are superheroes.  You have special powers, and you use those powers to help those in need.  Consulting is hard, because you're only needed when there are problems.  Your satisfaction is in solving problems and improving people's lives.

Superheroes don't go for applause.  In fact, we're often the scapegoats for the shortcomings of some people in our clients' organizations.  That's ok, even superheroes get blamed for crimes they didn't commit.  Superheroes remain noble, continuing to care about the best interests of their clients, continuing to save the day.

Every once in a while, when we do our jobs well, we get a "thank you" from a client - an acknowledgement that we have made their work and their lives a little better.  These moments make it all worth while.
