Had a nice conversation yesterday with Job Perez, an Agile trainer. He says he likes to relate good software development to Lord of the Rings: The story goes off into multiple threads, but they all have one goal - defeating Sauron.
Unfortunately, I think the vast majority of software development is more like A Song of Ice & Fire (Game of Thrones): It goes off into various threads that no longer converge, and nobody knows how to end it!
So, is your software development more like Tolkien, or more like George R. R. Martin?
