The problem started when I tried to enable WPA support on my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop for my home's wireless network. I installed the wpa_supplicant as an rpm and configured and ran it dynamically (without the config file). Ran great the first time.
The second time however, doing an ifup to my wireless card would just cause my machine to pretty much hang. Well, not completely freeze, but the System Monitor would show that the processor was at 100%.
It's a long story after that... tried to uninstall and install again using the IPW2200 and IEEE80211 modules from the atrpms-testing repo. Somewhere along the way, I also upgraded to the latest CentOS kernel. Anyway, right now, I can't even detect my wireless card! Long story.
The next thing I plan to do is use the "remove-old" scripts that come with the sources for ieee80211 and ipw2200 then try to install again from RPM. If that doesn't work, I'll try to install from source. If that doesn't work, re-install my whole OS! :(
